And with arguably one of the biggest film stars out there now at the helm of the film, you can beat that production on this one is going to begin sooner rather than later. Johansson (see, that’s so hard to spell!) was rumored for the part a few months back when Margot Robbie started to back out of the project (for Suicide Squad, as we now know), but her casting was only confirmed yesterday through Variety. ![]() Just like Spike Lee’s Oldboy, which clearly had no similarity with Park Chan Wook’s film of the same name.īut I digress - ScarJo (does she like being called that? I like typing it out at least, since I can actually spell it) will be playing protagonist Motoko Kusanagi (that name will probably be changed), who is a cyborg cop in search of the mysterious hacker known as Shadow Puppet. Yes, she who giveth us both Lucy and Black Widow this year has been officially cast as the lead in the tentpole anime adaptation…although like most foreign adaptations, the producers of the film want you to think of this as an adaptation of THE SOURCE MATERIAL rather than the already successful adaptation of said source material. With Tenor, maker of GIF Keyboard, add popular Anime Aesthetic animated GIFs to. But at the very least now, we know the lead of the film is going to be good, because it’s Scarlett Johansson! From classics like Ghost In The Shell to the more recent Fate or Violet. But hey, Steven Spielberg is producing it, so that’s awesome! Then again, he also produced all the Transformers movies…hmm, what a quandary. The script whoever is from William Wheeler, who’s big claim to fame is being a writer on The Cape. It has director Rupert Sanders behind the camera who, if anything, knows what he is doing visually. After all, how would I be able to take part in the fan complaining if I haven’t seen the “vastly superior on every level” original?īut in all seriousness, it remains to be seen if the live action Ghost in the Shell will be a good film. But though I have yet to see the film, maybe the further development of this film adaptation of the story will push me to do so. ![]() It’s generally considered to be one of the best animes out there and since it’s a film with a lead film character who is a cyborg and also a cop, it should be right up my alley in terms of what I love in a good science fiction tale. There’s a lot of anime on my “Big List of Anime To See In An Effort To Not Be A Goddamn Idiot” (Working Title), but near the top is certainly Ghost in the Shell, the 1995 film from director Mamoru Oshii. The Ghost in the Shell took third place on its opening weekend, falling behind The Boss Baby, the animated film starring Alec Baldwin, which pulled in 49 million, and Disney’s highly anticipated remake of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson, which made 48 million (adding to its 395.5 million domestic total).
